Port Chaplain: Mike Burleigh

Elie Barakat, Ship Visitor

Mike Burleigh, Port Chaplain

Mike is a retired teacher whose career focused on working with EBD students. On retirement he moved to Aberdeenshire to work with his son developing a canoe building business. Mike was also Project Manager at Water-Mill Visitor Centre providing sheltered work for vulnerable adults. From 2015-2023, he volunteered with the Sailors’ Society as the Port Chaplain in Montrose. In 2024 Mike joined SCFS, and he and his wife Lydia continue to visit with the seafarers.

Elie Barakat, Ship Visitor

Elie is Lebanese but lives in Montrose. He became a Christian in 1990.  After number of years of full-time ministry in South Lebanon and later as pastor in Beirut, God led Elie and his family to move to Montrose. Elie met with our Montrose Port Chaplin, Mike Burleigh, and decided to start visiting the ships with him in Montrose. Elie saw it is an opportunity and an open door to share the love of God to different nationalities alongside Mike.
