Stranded!

On Monday 12th February Colin Jenkins was approached by an ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) representative for Ireland requesting help in providing urgent assistance to two Latvian fishermen who were stranded in Castletownbere. They had come off a fishing vessel after not receiving their wages for six weeks work. After seeking Trustee approval, Colin arranged for accommodation for two nights in Cork. The next day I met with them and arranged for a further 5 nights accommodation, provided them with money for food and booked them seats on a late night coach to Dublin airport on the Sunday night as they had flights booked on the Monday to Riga. Having arrived safely in Riga they have both been in touch and wanted to say a huge thank you to SCFS for supporting them in their hour of need. ITF had agreed to cover all the costs involved. A great example of partnership working with the two organisations for the benefit of Seafarers.
