"I was blessed to visit both a cargo ship and a cruise ship with the Port Chaplain in Cork. It was an amazing experience. My eyes were really opened to the challenging life which seafarers live on board.
Cargo ship: the men were so friendly and hospitable. They offered us tea, coffee, juice, and even lunch. I definitely felt out of my comfort zone in a room full of Muslim men, some who were smoking a lot. Colin was very natural in communicating with them, and seemed to have known them for years. They were very thankful for the gifts, hats, teddies, snacks, literature. They also respectfully listened to Colin sharing Good News about Jesus with them.
Seafarers surely have soft hearts!
Cruise ship: I was amazed by the luxury upstairs contrasted with the factory style in the crew areas. The crew again were so enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming. They made us feel right at home. Of course the free gifts disappeared really quickly! Crew kept coming to us and I think the ladies may have opened up more in conversation with me, simply because I'm also a lady. I can't imagine how hard they work in order to provide for their families at home. They inspire me.
A particular highlight was meeting lady crew members who attend and even help lead the Christian fellowship! We were blessed to pray with them. Praise the Lord for the Church on the Oceans!"
