Lorraine experienced her first merchant ship visit while distributing Christmas gifts...
'I recently had the privilege of joining with our Belfast chaplain, Sam Cowan, on my first merchant ship visit. It was very much different from the cruise ship visits.
However from luxury liners cruising for relaxation to working merchant ships that keep essential supplies to ports worldwide, they both have one thing in common. The crews on both ships are often away from home for many months and Christmas time can be a real challenge to those far from their families.
At Christmas, we remember the ultimate gift of giving. The SCFS gift bags, filled with practical items such as hats, gloves, and other essentials, along with delightful sweets—and most importantly, God’s Word shared through a beautiful SCFS 2026 calendar—brought joy to those we met who serve so faithfully on the many ships we visited that day. It was wonderful to share conversations and witness the appreciation for the gift bags, which offered comfort, warmth, and a prayerful reminder of the importance of God’s love for all.
I look forward to many more visits on both vessels—cruise and merchant ships.'
