Cultural differences are often most apparent around the dinner table – I was reminded of this during one of my recent visits to the port of Emden. The hospitality on board was truly remarkable. After a warm conversation and a delicious meal, we ended the evening with traditional Chinese tea – a lovely gesture of welcome and connection.
The next day, I had the opportunity to return the favour. I invited some crew members on a sightseeing tour of our small port city. Later, back at my home, we rounded off the day in my apartment with a traditional German tea ceremony.
The crew thoroughly enjoyed their time on land – and they are already hoping for an opportunity to return to Emden.
